MY PERSONAL "2 cents" ON THE SUBJECT OF COURTESY:
We need a COURTEOUS HOMESCHOOL/UNSCHOOL
movement out there. These combative, exclusionary, argumentative, defensive, adversarial postures so visible in much of the dialogue about homeschooling and unschooling options does not reflect well on our ability to think, the excellence of our own personal education, or on our strength of character to extend welcomes those whose thinking or belief systems challenge our own. These postures mark us as woefully uneducated in COURTESY. One departs from the historic efforts of man/woman/child to rise above the merely instinctive and territorial self when engaging in these all-too-often debasing discourses. We need to learn how to allow COURTESY to drive and impassion our dialogues about life, about how to educate our children. If we do not model it, how can in the world can we expect them to develop it?
