HOW TO BURN YOUR NEW GOURMET PURE SOY CANDLES SAFELY AND EFFICIENTLY
Read these carefully before burning your new, clean-burning SIMPLE TREASURES triple-scented soy and palm wax candles!
1. Remove any paper tags or raffia ribbon before burning your new jar candle. You do not have to remove the shrink wrapping on the 16oz soy/veg candle jar, but you certainly can. You can tie a wide ribbon around the jar (not the jar lip) to match your decor if you like. Our large jar candles have two wicks. Both wicks should be lit each time you burn your candle.
2. Candles have a great memory. The first time you burn your new candle is important in terms of establishing that "memory." You should allow your jar candle to burn until the melt pool reaches the outer edge of the jar each time you burn it. Allow your new candle to burn for two hours the first time and for at least one hour on each subsequent light. A complete first burn will allow your candle to have the longest burn life. After the initial burn, allow your candle to burn no more than 4 hours at a time. Burning for longer may mean that the cotton wicks will become pliable and not remain vertical. Burning a votive is not quite as tricky, but please burn it long enough (an hour the first time) for the top to melt evenly inside whatever votive container you're using. (NOTE: If your votive holder closely matches the shape of your votive, the candle will burn much, much longer.)

3. Don't forget to trim your candlewicks to 1/4-1/2" prior to each burn, whether you are burning votives or jarred candles.
Keeping your wicks trimmed will prevent a high flame that can smoke. The wicks are all-cotton, and any flammable wick material will smoke if it is not kept trimmed. Make sure that you leave no burnt wick trimmings in the wax when you trim your candles.
4. Keep your candles away from drafts to prevent smoking. Drafts will cause your candles to burn unevenly and may present a fire hazard. 5. Store candles in a cool, dry place to prevent fading. Because these candles are made with pure soy compounds, they are more sensitive to heat than their paraffin cousins. When exposed to sunlight and heat (like leaving them in a car in summer) for long periods of time, you will notice a softening of the wax. The fragrance won't be changed by such exposure, but the color may fade slightly and the product will definitely soften. Placing a sun-exposed candle in the refrigerator for a half hour or so will restore its hardness and consistency.

6. Always burn candles on a protected, non-flammable, heat resistant surface. Do not sit a glass-jarred candle or a votive in a ceramic or glass container directly on a glass surface to burn. Never burn a candle on, in or near anything flammable.
7. Put your candles out by blowing gently on the wicks or by using a candlesnuffer. Do not put the lid back on the jar while burning. Do not use water to extinguish candles!
8. To prevent heat damage or fire, it is safest to discontinue the use of your candle when only 1/2" wax remains in the bottom of the jar.

9. Do not move your candle while it is burning or while the wax is still hot. The jars may become hot, and you may get burned! Soy candles burn at a lower temperature than paraffin candles, but the wax, while not as hot, could still leave someone with a scald.
10. Always keep burning candles out of the reach of children and pets. Consider if a tablecloth or covering underneath a candleholder might be within the reach of a curious child or playful pet.
11. PLEASE, NEVER, EVER leave a burning candle unattended! (I nearly managed to burn up my dining room this way one Christmas season by forgetting I had my advent wreath lit!)
