Homeschooling Drama
Dramatic resources, readers' theater scripts, lots of great ideas
Start with AARON SHEPARD'S absolutely wonderful, free, ethnically diverse, history-rich, culturally expansive scripts. I have used his readers' theater scripts as oral reading exercises and even turned a few into stage versions for homeschool groups to produce complete with sets and costuming. We had a blast, and you will, too!

Two of my favorite titles for introducing the subject are Acting & Theater and The World of Shakespeare, both done in inimitable Usborne Books style. They're intermediate-and-up-level books I purchased for our acting library long before I became an Usborne distributor. Also, check out Stories from Shakespeare for easy-to-understand story summaries of The Bard's works.

Theater games are part of the great, great fun of doing theater. Theater-on-a-Shoestring offers you dozens of really good ones free of charge. Click here for dozens of free plays (and a few inexpensive ones) that can be performed by your homeschool group. One freebie I particularly like is "Kiss the Brown Bunny" because it requires only two actors and is a hoot for a couple of older kids to perform for younger ones.
