SOME OF MY NEW GOALS ON ACAI
If anyone had told me in 12/05 when I was on morphine for intractable pain that in 2/06 I'd be planning beachcombing and birdwatching adventures -- well, I would have asked them what drug THEY were on!
*Shelling on Sanibel Island, careless of how many steps I've taken and how many it will take me to get back. (I don't have to count my steps in measures of agony and limited energy of arthritis any more!)
*Collecting ancient shark teeth on Venice Beach and Manasota Beach. The bending and sifting and walking -- all possible now.

*Taking the long car trips once again that allow visits to friends and family in other places. The formation of blood clots in my legs and lungs have been such a threat that I haven't been able to travel without risk.
*As ACAI keeps me functioning better and better, I can think about flying once again, too. Maybe I can attend my 40th high school reunion in El Paso after all!
*And definitely, canoeing down the Peace River to collect Ice Age fossils. The long walks and physical exertions of these adventures have been beyond me for years -- but I love them and have inspired countless homeschoolers with my tales of Ice Age fossil wonders waiting near the surface for them throughout Florida. I thought all that was in my past forever -- until this ACAI life drink started changing my life.

*I can once again consider balancing on the rocks surrounding the wonderful tidewater pools that dot the beaches of eastern Florida. In some places (like along Fernandina Beach), these pools also capture fossils from enormous rock beds that lie underwater off shore. These are washed in on waves and suspended in the pools by the actions of the tides: bones of ancient camels, scutes of ancient armadillos (big as Volkswagon beetles!) and alligators and turtles, bones of horses smaller than today's Shetland pony, fossil shark teeth more ancient still.
*The Florida skies and landscapes are filled with birds. The bald eagle has made a comeback. Ospreys vie with them for possession of the highest treetop nesting sites. Blue herons and tri-coloreds and wading birds of dozens of species are everywhere. But walking along nature trails had become impossible to me -- I want to try again in the near future, now that I can trust my knees to get me there and back again!
